Innospec’s Surfactant for Personal Care

Innospec has partnered with Huntsman Corporation to launch Tauranol SCMI-85 (sodium cocoyl methyl isethionate), a new surfactant for the personal care industry.

Tauranol SCMI-85 provides the same mildness and foaming attributes of other Innospec isethionate surfactants, but with a dramatic improvement in solubility to facilitate “crystal clear” liquid systems. The product is expected to be of particular interest to manufacturers of specialty (sulfate-free) shampoos, as well as face and body cleansers.

“This is one of the most exciting new surfactants developed for the personal care industry in recent years,” said Philip Matena, president of Innospec Performance Chemicals U.S.

“We are delighted that Huntsman selected Innospec Finetex to commercialize this new molecule. Our expertise in isethionate chemistry enabled us to efficiently scale up for production in commercial quantities, and our sales and marketing teams have already generated significant interest in this breakthrough product.”

Mibelle Biochemistry Launches Two New Products

Mibelle Biochemistry has introduced   two new products for cosmetic formulations. Dextophane is a second-generation antioxidant to protect the skin against city pollution and MelanoBronze is a product that boosts natural skin tanning.

Wacker Introduces Hybrid Polymer for Hairstyling

The silicone/vinyl acetate copolymer makes it possible to produce water-based hairsprays that not only provide a firm hold, but also give hair a natural feel. The newly-developed hybrid polymer, Wacker-Belsil P 101 gives hair a firm hold—without impairing soft feel, two properties that were previously thought to be incompatible.

This new product consists of two components—inorganic silicone and organic vinyl acetate. The polymer does not draw any water from moist air. It is ideal for formulating hairsprays with a high water content while avoiding any sticky film. The product can be used to make aerosol and pump sprays.

Formulations with Wacker-Belsil P 101 produce a fine spray that provides optimum distribution on the hair. Results indicate that the polymer ensures firm hold, enhances combability and gives hair a pleasant, soft feel.

New Stepan Materials Deliver Functional & Active Ingredients

A new range of products that have been  added by Stepan Company are free of trans-fatty acids, contain no genetically modified organisms and are certified kosher.

Stepan EDS (erythritol distearate) is a shell component for thorough protection of sensitive bioactive ingredients used in micro-encapsulation applications, even at temperatures required for pasteurization.

Drewmulse GMC-810 (glycerol mono (caprylate/caprate) functions as a wetting agent and dispersant for whey, starch and flour as well as an agent to promote instantizing of powdered products. It can be used to aid in the absorption of vitamins and minerals in nutritional supplements.

Drewpol 3-5-CC is a polyglycerol ester derived from medium chain fatty acids. It has similar functionality to Neobee MCT’s but is differentiated by its higher viscosity and higher smoke point.

Marinova Produces Macroalgal Extracts for Cosmetics
